Zingara and Slavery

Since the beginning, the people of Zingara have been capturing and enslaving – all have felt the lash of their whips as cultures clashed on Zingaran soil. The slave in Zingara is not so much an issue of chattel or property to be bought and sold individually but is an issue of honour. The slave is a symbol of domination and superiority by the slave-taker. There is no strict line between slave and master, and slaves can even become family, either through adoption or marriage. Slaves are a prestige symbol; to own a slave means you have conquered someone. Beautiful foreign women are often tricked into slavery by wily Zingarans who promptly put them to work as prostitutes. The slaver makes seemingly legitimate offers for situations with the Zingaran elite, but once they arrive in Zingara the women find themselves alone and without friends, at the mercy of the man who brought them there.
